Sony pictures image works' Pete Travers talks "wonderfood" VFX in Cloudy 2

Things I learned
•Pete Travers joined image works in 1999 to supervise effects animation on Hollow man
•Pete worked on Zathura, The Aviator, The Haunted Mansion, The Matrix reloaded, The Lord of the Rings: The Two towers, Stuart Little 2 and Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone
•He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Opinion
•Live action and animated films are completely different, you need lighters, effect animators, etc. for both but in animated features you make every pixel
Question
•if you are working with pixels in animation what do you work with in live action films?

Think Filmmaking is just for Extroverts? Here's 5 things Introverts bring to movies

Things I learned
•Introverts have two terrific character traits: they are deeply insightful and very analytical
•Filmmakers now have to choose between a wide array of filmmaking: features, feature docs, documentary shorts, music videos, viral shorts, commercials and other corporate work
•to make it a filmmaker needs to stand out from a crowded throng of very talented people
Opinions
•introverts are just as important as extroverts
•introverts bring great dynamics to filmmaking
Question
•Are most Filmmakers introverts or extroverts?

Walt Disney & Jim Henson: so similar, so different

Things I've learned
• Walt's vision of fairytales tended to be straightforward and sentimental while Jim's was satirical and socially relevant.
•Walt didn't like his films to be known as just cartoons and Jim didn't like to be known as just a puppeteer.
•Jim built the doll house from the Sesame Street short story film "Dollhouse" for his kids and Walt built the miniature farmhouse.

Opinions
•Jim Henson and Walt Disney are very similar in what they do.
•They both were very successful with making movies.

Question
• How does one person come up with so many good ideas?

Story boarding Tips from Dreamworks

Things I've learned
•Storyboarding helps to determine whether or not the shots are dynamic, edits are motivated, or if you're missing something.
•To think in 3-point perspective because it adds more depth to your storyboards, which will in turn add depth to your shot.
•Drawing a grid puts your character on an easily discernible plan, which helps you gain more control and perspective as you draw.

Opinions
•When you draw a storyboard first you can make sure that everything is the way you want it before you start on a project.
•Drawing a grid in your storyboard can make your drawings look better and help you put things where you want them to go.

What I learned this week was how to use different things on the computer, like illustrator.
What I would like to learn is how to create a movie
Something that frustrated me this week is not knowing how to do some of my homework

Low Budget Filmmaking

Things I learned
•Steven Spielberg used a model ship in the Mojave Desert of California to double for the Gobi Desert of Mongolia
•If the model was off only a little, the illusion is ruined and falls apart
•Audio contributes just as much as the visual to sell the effect

Opinions
•Scenes from a low budget film can look as good as a scene from another film
•I liked how they used a model Humvee from Walmart in their movie

Question
•Around how much would a low budget movie cost to produce?http://vashivisuals.com/visual-effects-low-budget-filmmaking/
